INTIMACY DIRECTION &

COORDINATION

Trained by a leading Canadian training body, Principal Intimacy Professionals, I am committed to ensuring that performers feel empowered and secure when navigating scenes that involve physical and emotional intimacy. With a keen understanding of the importance of consent, communication, and boundary-setting, I collaborate closely with the cast and crew to choreograph intimate moments that enhance storytelling while prioritizing the well-being of the folks involved.

Having honed my craft through a combination of academic knowledge and practical experience, I have worked on a diverse range of projects, contributing my expertise to productions across various genres and platforms. I function as an advocate for industry-wide standards in intimacy coordination.

My scope of practice and skills include:

  • Specialised movement training techniques and choreography

  • Desexualising/Neutral vocabulary

  • Boundary exercises

  • De-roling techniques

  • Modesty garment application and sourcing

TESTIMONIALS

  • Producer - LAURA johnson

We worked with Rebecca on a short film. She was professional, accommodating and fun to have on set! She was flexible in meeting us in pre-production prep, responsive and answered all our questions. She took the time to get to know our actors and understand their wants, needs and concerns. Her training and expertise were helpful on set with new and nervous actors. She made sure everyone, including the crew, felt comfortable with the process. She brings a positive and happy energy to set. We highly recommend her services!

  • Intimacy coordinator - Alix Sideris

Rebecca is a real gift of an Intimacy Coordinator! She is warm, works efficiently, and has this incredible ability to lighten any moment with her brilliant sense of humour. It was an absolute joy collaborating with her on Bryce Hodgson’s Thanks to the Hard Work of the Elephants! Her communication was super clear, her support was quiet, profound, uplifting, and effective, and she helped the day flow smoothly. Rebecca would also check in with the numerous background performers to make sure they were cared for since their scenes contained deeply sensitive and extremely heightened material. She is a grounded, insightful, and open-minded human being who is aligned for this work. I would pair up with her again in an instant!

Rebecca Lashmar is a pleasure to work with and an asset to production teams. Her attention to detail is unparalleled. The intersections of her work in academia, acting, writing, mental health, and intimacy provide a unique perspective not often found in our industry. I am proud to call her a friend and colleague!

  • Producer - David Scarpetti

Tatyana (Actor), Robert (Actor) and I were talking about how we’ve never worked with an Intimacy Coordinator so compassionate and professional on and off set. So amazed by her work. More people need to work with her!

  • Director/Actor - Jeremy Burke

Having worked, as a director and a performer, with Rebecca I can confidently say that she is not only a joy to have in the space, but an asset to the creative process. She is so easy to understand and personable with cast and crew, immediately embracing the theatre making space she has been invited into while challenging the present artists to fully consider intimacy in their work. Most importantly, she is a creative, and has proven how collaboratively and warmly she can help to tell the story at hand, and make informed decisions with the other artists in the room.
